Voter Registration and Election Information

Voter Registration

To register, one must be a U.S. Citizen, 18 years old on election day, and a bonafide state and county resident (30-day residency required). Have not been convicted of a felony or have your rights automatically restored upon completion of sentencing, including probation and parole. All cities have city-county joint registration. You must re-register if you move out of your precinct, have a name change, or if you fail to vote during a four-year period.

Election Day registration is available at your polling place. Bring proof of residence (examples: driver's license, power bill, phone bill, etc.) and picture identification.

You may obtain mail-in registration forms in your county's driver license, health and welfare departments, and other State agencies. Registration will close 25 days prior to the election. If you have any questions call the County Clerk at 799-3020.

Election Day Information

Notice of an election will be published in the legal section of one newspaper in the county at least twice. Each notice will provide the date of election, polling place in each precinct, and the hours polls shall remain open for voting.

October 10, 2008 Last day to pre-register to vote with County Clerk until 5:00 p.m. for the November 4 election.
October 29, 2008 Last day for application for mail-in absentee ballot to be received by election official not later than 5:00 p.m.
November 3, 2008 Voters who are unable to go to the polls on Election Day can vote absentee in person until 5:00 p.m. at the Nez Perce County Courthouse Auditor’s Office, 1230 Main Street, Lewiston.
November 4, 2008 Registered voter’s who are unable to come into the Auditor’s office can make arrangements to have a ballot brought to their home by calling 799-3020 to schedule an appointment.

 Absentee Voting

Written application for voting must be filed with the County Clerk no later than the day preceding the election or as early as 60 days prior to the election.

Wednesday, Oct 29, 2008 is the last day applications for mail-out absentee ballots may be received by the county clerk for the November 4, 2008 General Election. All applications must be received by the Auditor’s Office no later than 5:00 p.m.

Voters who are unable to go to the polls on Election Day can vote absentee through Tuesday, November 4th at the Nez Perce County Courthouse Auditor’s Office, 1230 Main Street, Lewiston.

Registered voter’s who are unable to come into the Auditor’s office can make arrangements to have a ballot brought to their home by calling 799-3020 to schedule an appointment.
